Fallout 3:New Vegas

Fallout 3:New Vegas

I’m not sure what to make of Fallout 3: New Vegas. I knew when I started this game exactly what to expect because of one simple statement – “It’s the exact same as Fallout 3″ – and it wasn’t wrong.

This game really is exactly like Fallout 3. Game play, controls, character interactions, landscape. It really is the same game with a new location and a new story. So if you want to get my feel of the game, read my original Fallout 3 review because I feel more or less exactly the same about this game as I did the original. So instead I will focus on the minor changes

The first change I will point out is that of a companion. In your travels, if you complete certain quests for people, you can have them come with you and gain certain bonuses. The only person I found and had come with me was Boone. I thought he was best thanks to his “spotter” perk which made seeing enemies when looking down a scope much much easier by having them glow.

The second small small addition was that of gambling, but let’s be honest. It wouldn’t be Vegas without gambling. Only downside was I quickly got myself banned at every casino in town since I had my luck more or less maxed out and the house was losing money faster than a malfunctioning ATM. So that was a nice and easy way to get money although it might take you a bit longer to rob the casinos of everything they have if your luck isn’t as high as mine was.

The thing that stopped me playing this game was when I had to get into the compound run by Caesar’s Legion to get some disc or something, I can’t remember at this point which doesn’t say much about the story in this game. Anyway I had to break in but since my companion and myself were both snipers, it took a while before I told my companion to wait outside while I snuck inside and killed who I needed to and then got out. Unfortunately my companion at this point decided to ignore my “Don’t fucking move” orders and came into the compound as I made my way out. So he was stuck inside being shot at by about 30 guards and bad guys and I was on the other side and damn it all if I was going to rescue the dumb prick. Thanks to this bout of frustration and me starting to play Just Cause 2, I gave up on Fallout 3.

I’d be a little more disappointed about the whole thing if it wasn’t for the fact I pointed out write at the start. The game is exactly like Fallout 3. You could just call it an expansion pack really rather than a whole new game. That said however if you enjoyed Fallout 3, you can easily find enjoyment in New Vegas.
