This first started out as a project at work and to be fair it was mostly completed at work but some of the things that I have included in this were not originally part of the request. Since I work for a company that does a lot of conference web sites, it is important that speakers, particularly keynote speakers, are displayed and highlighted in an interesting and eye-catching way and this is not a tricky thing to do. However since we have moved to WordPress in an attempt to maximize the amount of content that marketers can edit, we needed a new way that would go along with the new ethos. The result is what you see now.
This speaker scroller is a plug-in for WordPress that will allow people to edit the maximum amount of display options such as transition fades and directions, text styles, and even the position of components on the scroller. So the display is very straight forward and due to a speaker plug-in that we use at work, when a speaker gets added, it is automatically added to the scroller which was built in flash. I am very pleased with the result, particularly since this was my first attempt at creating a WordPress plug-in. A demonstration of the final product can be seen to the left.
