With the end of the year quickly approaching for me and even passed for some people, I need to decide on my top five games of the year. For the first time I decided to outline some very specific rules.
- It must be a game I’ve reviewed. If I haven’t reviewed it on this site, it doesn’t qualify.
- Regardless of the game’s release date, if I reviewed it this year, it can go in the top five.
- Any type of gaming platform can be included, whether it be console, PC or smartphone.
That’s it really. They are very simple rules but they are the rules that I have put in place. So without further ado, I bring you the top five.
5. Batman: Arkham City
The sequel to the Arkham Asylum and just scraps in at number five. It was a great game, good enough that I actually inevitably played it through twice because of a corrupt save file on my 360. The game was plagued by a few niggling issues but overall, a good sequel to the great Arkham Asylum.
4. Driver: San Francisco.
A late entrant and my last review of the year having only finished the game a few days ago however despite that, it was still one of the most enjoyable games I’ve played all year. Despite a few niggling issues, I am still kicking myself for not having grabbed it earlier.
3. Saint’s Row: The Third
Saint’s Row comes third and in a very well deserved place. The thing is though, it could have quite easily hit the number one spot as there was very little wrong with the game. However the reason it is in third place is quite simply because the games above it were just better.
2. Deus Ex: Human Revolution
Coming in number two, we have Deus Ex:Human Revolution. This game was not perfect and from what I have read, has quite a few issues when compared to the original, however it cannot be denied that I had an absolutely fantastic time playing this game and I quote from my review – “One that made me spend night after night not getting enough sleep ahead of the next day at work” It well deserves it’s number two place.
1. Skyrim
This game was only ever going to come first. Some may criticise me on this fact and that I may be a bit biased, but this is MY top five of the year. I knew the second the game got released that it was going to be first and I was right to think it. I’ve already played it through once and have completed nearly every faction however despite this, I still want to start a new character and enjoy it all over again. It was just absolute bliss and was a fantastic way to spend my gaming holiday.
