From bugger all to goodbye $$

Well the gaming season known as Bugger Alls Coming Out if officially coming to a close with many new games coming out for the Christmas season and all at frustrating times to say the least with uni not yet over. There are many games coming up that I will need to preorder, but here are some of the ones that I am really looking forward to.

Mirrors Edge - Firstly this game just looks awesome. If the game play is anything like the trailers, we will be in for a good time. The thing that draws me most about this game is the fact that it is an original idea. The idea is not on gun play, just running and jumping in very cool ways with some hand to hand combat mixed in. Really really lookingward to this despite its unfortunate release date of a day before Wrath of the Lich King.

Wrath of the Lich King - After almost two years since the release of The Burning Crusade and at a time when doing kara has become an PUG afternoon activity rather than a concentrated guild effort,  Wrath of the Lich King will soon be coming out. Patches have been released which I am currently downloading in preparation and I am really looking forward to giving the new talents and workout. Fortunatly despite my EB Games store being somewhat smaller than other around my area, it is still doing a midnight release and having ordered months in advance, a collectors edition is a certainty.

Saints Row 2 - I have to be honest, I was a fan of the first game. It came out at a time when the GTA 4 was a bried speck on the horizon and those who love the style needed something else to take up their time, something which Saints Row did beautifully. There is no doubt that it is a GTA knock off but it does the job so well, you cannot really complain about it.

So they are the big three. There are many more on my list such as Fable 2, Gears of War 2, Spider-man Web of Shadows, James Bond:Quantum of Solace and Prince of Persia. These will all be pre-ordered and its probably going to cost me a small fortune. But after the shitter uni semester I have had, I need gaming and I need it bad.

World of Warcraft 3.0
in Game View posted 2008-10-16 14:25:28

Yes, the day has come and Blizzard has come to bless us World of Warcraft addicts with th 3.0 patch. A day which many have been looking forward too, including myself, as it allows players to access many of the features that we can expect to see in Wrath of the Lich King. I have taken a look at some, not all of them... christ I am not THAT enthusiastic....(eerie silence).....ok so maybe I am that enthusiastic but I am only going to blather on about what I have seen

The Barber Shop - Once of the more amusing features that Blizzard has come up with. They seem to have decided that have years of gameplay, people might be becoming bored with the hairstyle their characters have and want to change it for a funky summer do. This idea truly cannot have any point to it other than humour value, but this did not stop me falling in line behind the others and getting a haircut. I will note however that the cost of visiting the barber is beyond ridiculous. It cost me 7 gold 92 silver and something copper to change my hairstyle. The average quest reward in gold is between 7g and 11g. So in the mind of Blizzard, if you are a gun for hire you will make only slightly more than a hairdresser. Meaning either mecenaries are getting ripped off or my local hairdresser is not earning what he should.

Achievements - If you have ever played an Xbox 360 games or PS3 game, the idea of achievement points is not new. Blizzard have taken the exact same idea and put in place in the World of Warcraft game. However I have to say this is a really stupid move. It does not really do anything and will only serve as a taunt for those who must complete everything. The question that seems to be floating around is whether the acheivement points will actually be worth anything. I personally doubt they will but others have suggested they may be used for vanity items

Inscriptions - The new profession contained within the WoW universe and creating a second use for the Herbalism gathering profession. Now thanks to those obsessives who looked up all the mats in advance, the Auction Houses have already been flooded with Glyphs for users and so far they appear to be a pretty nice profession. With the ability for 3 major glyphs and 3 minor glyphs, abilities can be improved quite nicely. For example, my druid now has two glyphs which makes the Maul ability hit two people rather than one and when I use my Frenzied Regeneration ability, heals done to me heal for 20% more. If this is a taste of what he can expect for Wrath, inscriptions will become very popular, very quickly.

In built threat meters - This is an iffy one but has great potential. Hovering a mouse over an enemy when your in a party, it will tell your threat percentage on that target. Tanks will of course have 100% threat at all times (ideally), and you will have less than that. If you hit 100% at any time you have a problem. The only downside is that the threat only appears when hovering over, but eventually someone will make a mod to take those numbers as display it like the threat meter, Omen. But with Omen already working in the latest patch, it does not really matter.

It is just so easy - With the patch, comes the ability for people to access their next set of talents. For my Druid, this has been the berserk ability, meaning I can mangle virtually non-stop on three targets at once with only the GCD slowing me down. Other classes have other fantastic abilities but the obviously this has made the game so easy. Guilds that could not defeat raid bosses before are laughing at them as they go down in one shot. I myself, whose tanking ability and gear is that of a Kara MT, yesterday MTed 4 of the 6 bosses in ZulAman, including the last two. Without difficulty I might add. Kara was completed in 1.5hrs. It was insane. This can only mean that Wrath will have a somewhat high difficulty level but this is the same as when BC came out.

However it is not all rainbows and sunshine. As inevitably as the fucking tide, the patch has screwed up pretty much all mods that people have. I spent a fair bit of time yesterday constantly checking for updates and so far I have a few working, others not and others that are just plain buggy. But this will be taken care of in time. Other annoyances included the removal of Blessing of Salvation from pallys, which means that other people getting aggro off the tank is ridiculously easy. But again, hopefully this will be sorted in time once people understand what they need to do.

So far the future of WoW looks hopeful, and once the patch bugs get sorted and I get all my mods back. I will be very happy with what Blizzard has included and what we can expect in Warth.

Saint's Row 2

I decided I was going to hold off on writing this review until I had finished the main storyline.... since I have done that, I can get going with my review.

This game follows on from the end of Saint's Row in which you have been blown up and sitting in a prison hospital for five years. You are awake from your slumber, break out of jail and do the exact same thing as the first game; wonder around, blow shit up and take over gang territory in an effort to take over the city. Unfortunatly this game has gone and made itself a almost carbon copy of the first game, even going so far as to be in the same city as before, although I will admit the city is bigger, has more vehicles, more guns, more activities. Really what it has done has put the game in the photocopier and added 50% or so with all the underlying bits kept the same. So if you have played the first game, you more or less have played this one. If you haven't played the first game but have played the GTA series, then you have essentially played this game. There is really all that much to say about it unfortunatly without babbling on about things that you would have heard about any GTA game.

I will say this though.Saint's Row initially had you playing as a male protoganist however Saint's Row 2 gives you the choice of being male or female (somehow an explosion is a quick and easy way to get a sex change). And whilst my instinct was to play as a male asshole, I found myself enjoying playing the female bitch in this game. Mostly because you can change their clothes so that its very minimal.....he he.....oi..... don't look at me like that.......I'm male! It can't be helped......ah shuddup you'd do the same.

I really enjoyed this one
