London til now.

Sorry for the lack of postings people but as I am sure you can appreciate, I have been a bit busy over the past few weeks with snowboarding, drinking and trying to find work. But lets start from the beginning and work our way through events.

Got to London on the 10th and established myself in a room above the pub where my brother works. A truly awesome place to live as I am three feet from grabbing a pint, usually for free since most people behind the bar know who I am and don't bother to charge me. Went on a couple of benders over the next couple of days. First one with three girls that my brother knew from a previous pub, which was a lot of fun until I decided I needed to throw up in the Vodka Revolution bar toilet. Next night went out on a pub crawl with Chris, a mate my brother works with for his friend's birthday, which worked out pretty well. I was able to walk home at least. Then finally was my birthday so I went out with my brother and a few other people he knew, visited strip clubs and ended up at another bar somewhere...which I can't remember. Either way good couple of nights.

Took it easy after that and then we went snowboarding in Poland with Matt, who is a really great guy. Got sick midway through for two days which was really annoying and snowboarding was a pain in the arse to pick up but finally got it done......in the last hour of snowboarding that I had.....much rage but at least next time I go out I should be able to pick it up much faster and have some fun on the steeper runs. What helped a lot was bringing along my iPod and it made it much more enjoyable. First night out in Poland was a disaster for me and have fragmented memories of it. We got enticed by a couple of girls selling Vodka and ended up buying a lot of the stuff so that we could all get a funny hat. This then resulted in a large number of shots in a short amount of time and on top of no food. This led me to be sick in yet another pub and I apparently broke a mirror. Don't know how I did that but it happened. Also have a recollection of collapsing outside in the snow and being hauled back to the hostel by my brother. So that was the first night. The other nights were alright though. Ended up going to a really good meat place twice where you got a platter with about 10 different types of meat. Demolished it all up the first time we went but the second time it got the better of us. Overall it was a brilliant trip.

And so back to the UK we are. Been trying to get a job in either a bar, data entry or my field, ActionScript programming and so far its been going ok. Hopefully I get one soon because I am crashing with my brother and whilst I appreciate the free accomodation. Its getting to a point where I need to try and get my own place and really get out into London, meet new people, make new friends etc. Although that said, I have met some really awesome people who work at my brother's pub and with a semi-pub crawl tonight for me (job interview tomorrow morning, can't get too hammered) I'm gonna have a lot of fun in London methinks.

Legion TD 1.5

With my recent WoW detox, I have found myself playing a lot of Warcraft 3: TFT custom maps again. I always loved these, particularly tower defenses and tower wars. Many years ago, me and my mate Twit would spend hours playing these things just because they were so much fun.

A new type of tower defense/war I have come across is that of Legion TD. The reason I like this one so much is that its a fantastic blend of strategy without the need for typical mazing that many tower defenses require. Simply described, you build towers that when the level start, come to life as uncontrollable units that attack a wave of enemies. Should you succeed in destroying the wave, your units will then move to teleport themselves in front of the king, which if his life points get to 0, your team loses. The main premise behind this is that each "tower" has an attack type and defense and it quickly become apparent that if you don't know what you are doing, you will quickly start leaking like a sieve and force your team mates to pick up the slack. There are also occasions when the towers you've build will just be destroyed no matter what you do (unless you really, really know what you are doing) purely based on the wave's attack type and armor type. Of course there is another element where you gather lumber with workers in order to send additional baddies to the other team during a wave to increase your income in order to buy better towers etc etc. Overall it's a solid blend of strategy and fun and I would quickly recommend it to anyone interested in tower defense maps.

The recent release of 1.5 has me quite interested, mostly because of the one and a half new races that have been included. I say one and a half because one race now has you spawning random towers from all other races of the equivalent tower tier. It allows for some pretty fantastic combinations however with the randomness of the towers, its hard to plan strategically where to place the bastard things. You see in order to survive, you have the usual routine of tanks and DPS, in which the tanks are your damage soaking thickies on the front line and the DPS stays in the back and nukes everything in front of them. Having random towers means you don't know if you're going to get a tank or DPS thing so planning accordingly is almost impossible. I'm not saying its a bad thing by any means. I managed to survive almost to the end with random towers with minimal leaks but occasionally it did mean a DPS tower was snapped down instantly due to bad placing. If nothing else its interesting and when you are releasing a new version of something, its got to have significant change, and must be good and/or interesting. Preferably both but not always, Vista I'm looking at you, but in this case 1.5 succeeds in pulling off both.

I did get a little sidetracked there but what this post boils down to is that Legion TD is good and you should go play it. I've found the best so far to be on the US West servers to play the map but I'm dipping my toes into the European servers to see what they are like.
